Lamborghini is not going turbo and believes naturally aspirated motors are still the best

Well, some people still get it. Lamborghini is right, naturally aspirated motors are the best. That is if one is trying to offer the best driving experience with no compromises. Many people believe manufacturers have no choice but to go turbo and that is false. There is a choice.

The problem is producing high performance naturally aspirated motors that compete with turbo offerings while being efficient are expensive to produce. A high revving V12 motor is not exactly a budget design and it is not something that can just carry over from a mass produced car. Many OEM's simply take the design they already have and change software or give it a bigger turbo. Lamborghini does not have to make these compromises as they are a niche producers.

It also helps to have the Volkswagen checkbook. Lamborghini's chief executive stated the following, "Naturally aspirated engines are still the best engines which are on the market for super sports cars, in terms of acceleration, in terms of sound. And unless there is [something] better, we are going to keep them."

Good for him not compromising as Ferrari did by sharing new motors with Maserati to keep costs down. That is not to say Lamborghini is not exploring turbo options, "We are constantly looking for alternatives. We are constantly seeing what we can do to make them better. And there will maybe a day when we are introducing turbos, when the turbos are equalizing or being better than naturally aspirated engines. There would be a day when we think that turbo can be better than naturally aspirated. And that day, we will step into it.""

Turbo motors certainly have improved but they can not match the raw emotion, feel, and sound offered by a high performance naturally aspirated motor. It is good to see someone stick up for the naturally aspirated powerplant although you can probably bet the upcoming Lamborghini Urus SUV will get turbo power via the 4.0 TFSI V8 from Audi.
