    Totally reviving an old thread just for fun. I was Googling schrick cams for the E46 M3 and this thread came up.

    Just to further testify that a tune is the secret to making power with cams. It was once thought that Schrick 288/280 12.5 lift cams on the S54B32 could only pull out 5-10whp and that was with tuning nearly a decade ago. I assume this was what scared off a lot of people from getting cams for the E46 M3.

    I exchanged a few messages with someone who recently had their E46 M3 with cams tuned by Evolve Automotive. Low and behold, he gained 30+whp and 11+wtq! This was absolutely unheard of years ago. Once again, goes to show how good Evolve Automotive is at tuning.

    Different car, same theory. 288/280 cams with a lightly ported head (just bowl cleanup on exhaust side), CSL airbox and ported TB's (not bored). About 50whp added and no loss of torque. The CSL box and tune is worth 10 whp (+/- 5whp). Cams, tune and headwork were the breadwinners in that dyno delta.

    I believe Alex and I will be racing this winter to see who can get their cams/headwork and tune done first!

    Very impressive indeed. This evidence certainly dismantles the theory that the s54 is maxed out AND that camshaft upgrades are not worth the effort.
