2012 CLS 63 AMG dyno comparison - Standard vs. Performance Package. vs. Renntech Stage 1 tune
This is something we have been waiting to see for a while. An M157 comparison between a standard CLS 63 AMG, a performance package CLS 63 AMG, and a Renntech tuned CLS 63 AMG. The standard car puts down 483 wheel and 478 wheel torque. The performance package ups this to 516 and 544 respectively which is a very nice jump. The Renntech tune then takes this to 583 wheel horsepower and 643 wheel torque which is just about a 100 pound-foot gain on top of the performance package. Incredible? Yes.

It so drastic with the change in both power and torque! I would love to drive one of this pre and post tune to just feel the difference.
Seeing this definitely makes me wonder if getting MB's Performance Package is even worth it despite getting the sportier suspension, brakes, steering wheel, and spoiler.2002 E46 M3 6MT | Jet Black . Black Nappa | My GermanBoost Build Thread

After driving new F10 M5 & previously driven the 2012 CLS63 with RENNtech tune or even stock CLS63 w/PP. The F10 M5 will really need to step it up in displacement to at least 5.0L IMHO. Besides AMG new styling & improved quality... the torque & handling of the CLS63 powered by M157 it's give me more chills
Now, I just want the M157 in the W204 Class Coupe =)

How would you compare the power delivery between the two?
What is very impressive about those dynos from RENNTech is how it depicts such a flat torque curve. I assume that translates to minimal turbo lag and instantaneous power. For me, I have always been all about the overall driving experience which is why I've always had a preference for the M cars. These new AMG and Black Series cars that are coming out are really tempting me to try one out...2002 E46 M3 6MT | Jet Black . Black Nappa | My GermanBoost Build Thread

Definetely, turbo lag it's a thing of the past. The M157 has nice displacement 5.5L, high compression 10:1, & MCT 7 speed gearing.... which translates into more efficient gas engines, pure acceleration & greater fun factor.
The F10 M5 it's an improvement over the E60 M5, but still lacks that displacement torque (automotive downsizing for efficiency thinking). The M cars are great handling overall vehicules, but lacked in torque IMHO (excluding the Diesels). AMG did not lack in torque, just overall handling.... they are indeed catching up with the 2012 CLS63 no doubt & you should try it!
Speaking of automotive downsizing:
Past E60 M5 V10 5.0L all muscle...now F10 M5 V8 4.4L Direct Inj biturbo (they should have kept it between 4.8L-5.0L)
Past AMG V8 6.2L all muscle...now AMG V8 5.5L Spray Guided Inj biturbo
BTW, the RENNtech tune on the 2012 CLS63 chassis, it will handle it with no issues... Since AMG 1st gen CLS65 V12 concept has been done before =)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll have to wait until the F10 M5 is available for test drive. I'd love to see what tuners will be able to churn out of the motor with very basic mods. I'm thinking about finally buying a larger sedan for my daily driver. Ideal situation would be that it's a highway monster and better gas mileage than my E46 M3 and E90 M3. Fortunately, I think both the CLS63 AMG, E63 AMG, and F10 M5 all fit the bill!!

ohh man, 640 wtq and 580 whp. Wow. The game is changing way too fast for me. By the time I go big turbo I will need to build the motor too! crap.

I think this go 'round AMG has M beat. I think the base model would give the M all it can handle so the PP should show the M its taillights all day! And as far as tuning goes, it looks like you'd have to drop the motor just to add downpipes and remove the cats on the M...not too appealing as I can only imagine how much $$$ will be added for labor to work on the M.

That part could be a plus, but whose going to put out a kit that won't require a new exhaust set up? Unlike the e60 f10 owners are going to see great gains but I think the extra work required is going to add more than than what AMG owners will have to pay for the same kinds of upgrades.

You mean exhaust manifolds or an aftermarket exhaust?
Not really sure what you are saying here. Changing turbos on the N63/S63 or M157 is going to cost money regardless and these are $100k cars so people are going to have to pay to play. The M3 is only in the 70's and superchargers are $13k+ with plenty of people lining up. I expect turbo upgrades to be somewhere around this range at least early on and people will go for it. That is part of the appeal in my mind.

Same suspension! It comes with mentioned CF trims & red calipers. The only difference, it's that the S63 AMG PP has the most power M157 in the line up & then comes the CL63 PP M157. Certain M157 might also come with an auxiliary radiator cooler, but has not physically confirmed.
