Does anyone know is this the part number specific to the 335i? Which has the shortest throw?

I think the Z3 E36/7 one has the shortest throw for the OEM ones...

that's the one i got for my E34 and it is amazing to say the least....

yes, you can... and i guess it's not that worn out on your E92...

But you can definately re-use it if you don't break it when disassembling the mechanism...

I will however promise you a great difference with the Z3M Gear Lever !!!

I haven't tried that 500$ kit from BMW, but i have tried various other levers that are OEM from a lot of BMW's and the Z3M one i gave you the part # for is definately the one with the shortest throw...

Thanks man, they are coming to the dealer soon to exchange it.. the one I bought originally is the same part I already have and they will only exchange it now even though it was more expensive than the one you suggested, lol. Just goes to show this forum is very useful, also with great members like you money/time can be spent wisely. Ill let you know how it looks once it arrives.

And although it may not look like a shorter throw, try installing it and see if you don't feel a difference...

But did they have the one i suggested in stock ?

BTW, if i'm correct the one i suggested should give you a 40% throw reduction...

Just so that we are clear...

It is recommended all bushings and joints in the shift linkage be replaced, as a reduction in shifter throw is also a reduction in leverage, which will make any sloppiness in the linkage more inconvenient...

The Z3M lever is straight, the E36 M3 lever has a bend in it at the bottom, not sure if it's the case with the E9x. This bend is required to give the shifter a centered orientation in your shifter area when the E36 is in neutral. So, in order to get this with the Z3M lever, you would need to put the lever in a vice and bend it if you want to do this mod and maintain the centered orientation of the shifter. The bend needs to be ~10°, forward or backward, just make sure you put the knob on the right way when you install it.

You can eyeball it by comparing the bend to your old shifter as well...

The Z3M lever is the one on the bottom, and you can see that it is straight compared to the ones above it...

I did some research, and it seems the E92 levers are straight aswell.. so it should be a direct fit...

Remember, it's the lower half (one on the right in the pictures) that decides how long the throw would be

In my E34, i just stuck it in there and it was centered. I did not bend it and i like the position of it a bit better than how it was before

Haha, I just shot some pics of my stock lever in R-6th gear. Will post up as soon as I get the install done in the next couple hours.. Gotta make some money first.
