FSR Motorsport E46 M3 turbo kit hits 720 wheel horsepower on the stock S54 internals

Impressive power here numbers from the upcoming FSR Motorsport E46 M3 turbo kit. This kit is not yet released and BimmerBoost explored this turbo option last week. BimmerBoost member @6spd_legend has the pre-production kit and his car showed an impressive 720 horsepower to the wheels at 19 psi.

Torque is at 538 lb-ft at the wheels and yes this on a completely stock E46 M3 S54 motor:

Tuning is done through the AEM Infinity standalone engine management unit. As far as pricing, the kit is expected to come in at $9k and goes up from there with additional options such as larger injectors and upgraded fuel pumps.

We're selling our Pre-Production S54 turbo kit. This kit is dyno proven to make 650whp in current setup. You can add larger injectors, additional fuel pumps or a larger turbocharger to make even more power. The kit contains the following used components: Precision 6466 dual ball bearing turbocharger, Turbosmart Hypergate45, FSR stainless steel tubular manifold, stainless steel dump tube, FSR stainless steel downpipe/midpipe combo that mates to OE exhaust, 6061 AL hot and cold side intercooler piping, Precision 31 1/2"L X 8.0"H X 3 1/2"D Intercooler with mounting brackets, turbosmart Raceport blow off valve, FSR fabricated intake manifold, intake with filter, oil feed and return lines with fittings, black couplers, SS clamps, FSR motor mount w/ bushing, hardware to mount turbo/manifold/intercooler, boost actuated exhaust cutout. You also get the following NEW items: AEM Infinity pkg for E46 M3 (includes AEM Infinity ECU, adapter harness, 5 bar SS map sensor, 150psi fuel pressure sensor, intake air temp sensor, wideband adapter harness, wideband sensor, boost control solenoid), Fuel Injector Clinic (FIC) 1100cc Hi Impedance fuel injectors, Walbro E85 compatible 400lph fuel pump (also called the 460/465/485) and Radium Engineering E46 M3 fuel pump install kit. It has been used on our shop car for dyno and road testing so it does show a little wear.

I like it. It does not build much between 7300-8000 but Holds power so it is worth revving it there during a run as average hp will be highest in that range.

With bigger turbos the s63tu would have a similar curve, it currently holds power between 5900-7200 so shifting the hp curve over to the right a bit is doable with no cam changes.

It's building power due to a flatter and wider curve. It's right there in front of you.

Look carefully and you will see HP hovers around 700hp from 7400-8100rpm.

Torque also goes down from 550 to 450 between 6500-8000rpm.... I like the s65 with supercharger curve better.... Torque and HP actually rises into the upper echelon....

They already look pretty familiar with much more torque. The only thing is the difference of power vs psi. This thing needs 19 psi to make 720whp while it takes me ~27-28 psi to make 720. On the same size turbo!

That is about as flat and broad of a curve as you are going to see for 700+ wheel horsepower in a BMW.

The S65 curve with a blower is slightly different as the blower is spun manually and makes boost with revs. It has far less torque down low vs. turbos:

Notice the turbo curve takes a dip at the same 7.5 psi toward redline? Yet do you notice all that area under the curve and still the higher torque peak and higher torque at redline?

From 3200 RPM to 4500 RPM – The Twin Turbo makes 60+ WHP more vs SC.
From 4500 RPM to 7000 RPM – The Twin Turbo makes 90+ WHP more vs SC.
From 7000 RPM to 8300 RPM – The Twin Turbo makes 50+ WHP more vs SC.
From 3700 RPM to 4600 RPM – The Twin Turbo makes 80+ WTQ more vs SC.
From 5500 RPM to 6200 RPM – The Twin Turbo makes 100+ WTQ more vs SC.
From 6200 RPM to 7200 RPM – The Twin Turbo makes 60+ WTQ more vs SC.
From 7200 RPM to Redline – The Twin Turbo makes 40+ WTQ more vs SC.

You can get a very nice looking S54 supercharger curve as well but it will get smoked so what is it you want? If you want the best of all worlds, you're looking at adding a turbo to a naturally aspirated high revving M motor base.

Yep, both curves are aggressive, I like em' both. Turbos almost always make more power and torque.... The supercharged curve simply exaggerates the NA curve, it looks darn good though. All things being equal, a turbo kit will smoke it power-wise....

I am, yes. Along with the higher redline and shorter stroke. The heads seem to flow better too.

Do you have a similar s65 dyno to compare to? I've never seen a turbo s65 w/ a 6466 at 19 psi

You won't see it because the motor wouldn't hold 19 psi stock. The S54 has a much stronger block.

The best is around 14 psi on a blower but I don't have that dyno.

On turbos they have only gone to 10 psi or so on the stock motor.

Per psi of boost if you really want to boil it down the 12.0:1 S65 4.0 liter V8 will make more power than the S54 but it won't hit the same peak power/torque levels on the stock internals.

That's a fair response and that's kind of what I was getting at. Talking about efficiency isn't exactly apples to apples when compression and displacement vary imo.

Damn. 720whp... that's on a dynojet though right? What would it be on a mustang? 680ish?

Bro, are you looking at the same curve? Where is it building power at high rpm? It's holding power between 7300 and 8200 (~ 700hp) but it's worth revving it there for quickest acceleration because thats where average hp is highest....

It actually is building until ~7800rpm, just not much beyond 6750ish. Also, the torque curve is flatter and wider than most. It builds torque quick and then holds it nearly flat to redline.

The biggest delta gains are between 4-5k where it gains 250hp, then 100hp between 5-6k, and ~80hp between 6-7k, the gains are slight thereafter until ~7400 where hp flattens out to redline.

in my experience the difference can be over 100whp difference when hitting high hp numbers....

It honestly depends on the Mustang and how it is calibrated. It should be in the mid 600's.
